At The Private Dental Centre, we understand that your child’s oral health is an essential part of their overall well-being.
Developing good dental habits from an early age sets the foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles!
When should my child first visit the dentist?
We recommend that children visit the dentist once their milk teeth start to appear or by their first birthday.
This will familiarise your child with the sights and smells of our dental practice and make future visits stress-free.
Early visits will also allow us to detect any early signs of decay or developmental issues and provide guidance on teething, brushing techniques and diet.
Tooth decay is one of the most common childhood dental issues and it is completely preventable! Regular check-ups every six months will ensure any issues are seen and treated as soon as possible.
Brushing tips for young teeth.
Establish a tooth brushing routine, twice daily, in the morning and before bed as a family. Brushing your teeth together will show children that brushing your teeth is for everyone!
Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and replace it every 3 months.
Make it fun! Let children practice on their favourite soft toy or use a song to prevent it from turning into a chore.
Introduce a reward system or a tooth brushing chart to incentivise children to brush their teeth.
Supervise brushing until at least age 7 to ensure they are doing it properly.
The role of diet in children’s dental health.
What your child eats plays a significant role in their oral health. To protect their teeth;
Limit sugary snacks and drinks, especially between meals.
Encourage water or milk instead of fruit juices or fizzy drinks.
Offer children tooth-friendly snacks like cheese, fruit, and crunchy vegetables. A balanced diet will help to maintain strong teeth and prevent decay.
Children’s services at The Private Dental Centre.
Our therapists are passionate about educating children about how to look keep their teeth and gums healthy.
At each visit we will check for plaque, make sure they are using the correct brushing technique and give them lots of information and advice.
We can apply fluoride or fissure sealants to young adult teeth to give them a little bit of extra protection from tooth decay and advise when a visit to the orthodontist might be appropriate.

We will help to give your child the tools and knowledge to be able to keep their teeth healthy for life!
