Healthy Mouth for Life...
Gums are the foundation within which your teeth sit
and it is our philosophy to prevent gum disease which leads to early tooth loss.
The most common dental diseases Tooth decay and Gum disease are entirely preventable.
Gum disease in its early stages affects many people and most are completely unaware of it.
There is clear evidence that links poor gum health to poor general health and heart disease and diabetes.
Gill, Kenny and Sally work closely together to diagnose and treat gum disease and when treated to monitor and maintain good gum health to ensure that any dental treatment carried out will be kept in the best possible condition.
Gum disease is an inflammatory condition and affects the hard and soft tissues that support the teeth.
The early stages of the disease is known as Gingivitis and affects the gums- It is caused by a sticky biofilm of bacteria that we call plaque. You may notice signs of bleeding and your gums may feel swollen and tender. These symptoms can be reversed completely by an effective home oral hygiene routine.
The advanced phase of the disease is known as Periodontitis and affects the hard and soft tissues that support the teeth. This is often associated with loose teeth , bad breath and deposits of hard plaque (tartar) on the root and crown of the tooth.
This will require treatment to prevent the disease from progressing and regular hygiene visits to maintain gum and bone support with monitoring of plaque and bespoke oral hygiene advice.
Good dental hygiene at home plays a major part in maintaining healthy gums.
Regular visits to the hygienist will greatly improve your oral health and treat bleeding gums and bad breath.
Any cosmetic dental treatment can only be undertaken when your mouth is free from tooth decay and gum disease.

Treating Tooth Decay...
If we diagnose that tooth decay is present we endeavour to use natural looking tooth coloured materials with minimal intervention, preserving as much of your tooth as we can. We keep up to date with technological advances and follow best practice guidelines at all times.
Wherever possible we use natural looking tooth coloured materials which are bonded on and preserve more of your tooth than silver fillings, prolonging the life of your tooth. Laboratory formed restorations are made using the highest quality lifelike materials to achieve the best possible result.
Your treatment options will always be fully explained to you, and the procedures, the timings and costs will be discussed so that you understand and are happy to proceed.
There are many options available to you including:
Our dentures are made locally with the highest quality materials. We will always try to incorporate any cosmetic requirement that you have and we take time to ensure that they look good and function well.
The same high standards and attention to detail are used if bridgework is the appropriate treatment for you.
A bridge is a laboratory made restoration which is attached to the prepared teeth adjacent to a gap, filling the space.
Implants are small metal structures which are implanted into the jaw bone. When the bone has knitted around the metal, the implant can then be used to support a crown, a bridge or a removable denture. We do not place implants here at The Private Dental Centre but we can refer you to see colleagues who have a special interest and lots of experience in implant work.
At The Private Dental Centre we will always discuss all your options with you, the advantages and disadvantages of each, so that you are fully informed and can make the best choice of treatment which will give the best possible result for you.
The team at The Private Dental Centre are passionate about giving children's teeth the best possible start in life and about educating them in how to look after their mouths and develop good habits to help them keep their teeth and gums healthy.
At each examination visit we will check for plaque and watch your child brush their teeth to make sure they are reaching all areas. We will talk to them about diet and give lots of information and advice. Fluoride will be applied to growing adult teeth or fissure sealants may be placed to give extra protection from tooth decay.
As your children get older we will monitor how their teeth are developing and advise on when a visit to the orthodontist may be appropriate. Our aim is to ensure that by the time they reach adulthood, each individual has the knowledge and skill to be able to keep their mouths healthy for life.
Tooth decay remains the number one reason for hospital admissions and general anesthetics in children in the UK.
Good habits learned young last a lifetime.
At The Private Dental Centre, we believe that a healthy and beautiful smile is a great asset. Using modern techniques that preserve as much of your teeth as possible, we can help you to achieve the natural looking smile you have always wanted.
Tooth whitening is an ideal way to enhance your smile. We use a home whitening system at The Private Dental Centre where we provide you with custom made whitening trays and gel and full instructions for using the kit at home. We monitor your progress, which is gradual and controllable, until you are happy with the colour of your teeth.
Crooked teeth can now be straightened using virtually invisible braces. We can discuss how Invisalign could transform your smile with a series of clear removable aligners and no unsightly metal wires or brackets.
Invisalign straightens teeth using a series of nearly invisible, clear plastic aligners that are custom-made to your teeth for comfort. Before treatment starts, you will see a video of your "virtual" teeth moving into the correct alignment. As you replace each aligner every two weeks, your teeth will move gradually until they have straightened and reached the final projected position.
As the aligners are nearly invisible you can keep your treatment a secret from friends and work colleagues. The aligners are worn at all times but can be easily removed for eating, drinking and cleaning your teeth, which makes tooth brushing easier than when using fixed braces.
Most treatments take around 12 to 18 months to complete, some may take longer and cases where the misalignment is very minor, may be able to be completed in just a few weeks. Gill offers a complimentary assessment visit during which she can ascertain your suitability for treatment and give you more information. Contact us to find out more.

Misshapen or worn teeth can be greatly enhanced by bonding tooth coloured composite fillings. These materials have advanced in recent years and can be made to mimic the layers and colour variations in a natural tooth.
Broken or heavily filled teeth can be beautifully restored with veneers or crowns which are made in a dental laboratory but this treatment requires some preparation to the tooth first. Modern technology has enabled the use of more life-like ceramics to enhance your smile.
Crowns and veneers can be used to whiten, reshape and straighten teeth which are chipped, worn or heavily filled.
In all cases, we will take the time to listen to your concerns about the appearance of your teeth and discuss all the options which would be suitable for you so that you can make an informed choice which will result in a healthy, vibrant smile.
